2x6 bed frame.

I lowered the inside frame so that the mattress sits 1 inch below the top of the 2x6. Line up the long sides of the two frame assemblies. The rails attach to these pieces directly to support the mattress. This hailey platform bed is inspired by a pottery barn bed that features wood slats for a headboard a wood frame and wood legs all 2x6 boards are used making this a quick project that will cost less than 50.

So the top is completely flush meaning it would sit on and not in. 12 2x6 stud length may be able to use less lumber if can haul long lengths 10 2x4 10 feet long slats. Bed frames typically have metal legs and feet that elevate them up off the floor. This is because these h shaped frame styles are intended for use with a headboard and footboard.

3 4x4x 8 posts 8 2x6x8 boards 2 2x4x8 boards 8 1x4x8 boards 2 1x5x8 boards. The bed rails each have a 2x2 1 5 x1 5 attached to the bottom inside edge on which the slats supporting the mattress rest. It can be flush or about 1 16 of an inch in to help give a more snug fit. Two into the 2x4 side of the legs and six into the 2x6 side of the leg.

Each inside corner of the bed frame receives 8 screws to mount the frames to the legs. An old metal bed frame donated its casters to make it easily movable. Rather i used spruce lumber normally used for framing. Most of that wood was 2x6 boards.

I used three 2x8 s one 2x6 one 2x10 and two 2x2 s. Once they are in place screw them together. Repeat these steps to make the other half of the bed frame. Next i placed the rail hardware at the mark and close to flush with the end of the board.

I found some super affordable bed frame rail hardware here. This ended up being a heavy but very sturdy bed frame. Layout the frame cross member so that you have one on each end of the frame sides. Bed rails are similar to frames but they re missing the metal slats at the head and foot of the bed.

Add bed frame rail hardware. The middle cross members get placed at 13 and 27 inches on the frame. I measured 1 3 4 inch down from the top of the 2 8 board and put a mark.
