Floors Were Open Plan

The invasion of the open plan office had been happening for more than a decade.

Today one hallmark of the midcentury modern decor style is a home with an early version of an open floor plan often featuring a fireplace open on all sides. All the remaining floors were free for open plan offices. Open plan is the generic term used in architectural and interior design for any floor plan which makes use of large open spaces and minimizes the use of small enclosed rooms such as private offices the term can also refer to landscaping of housing estates business parks etc in which there are no defined property boundaries such as hedges fences or walls. A kitchen island chairs a sofa a table or any other furniture can bridge the gap between the kitchen tile and the hardwoods in the rest of the open floor plan.

Long gone are the days when box like rooms were popular. Now companies are walking it back as they work to create spaces that meet appropriate social distancing. Large open plan living space is a dream of many people. Traditional use spaces are joined to create larger areas through the elimination of walls that typically divide rooms as well as reducing unused empty space.

In the 1990s american builders began touting the open floor plan eschewing distinct rooms in favor of vast expanses. Contemporary homes have rooms which flow into one another creating a large space without any borders or obstacles. Such a model has been popularised primarily thanks to dreamy loft apartments in large agglomerations all over the world. Of the 110 stories eight were set aside for technical services in mechanical floors floors 7 8 41 42 75 76 and 108 109 which were four two floor areas that evenly spaced up the building.

By the turn of the 20th century residential lots were smaller and house plans had to make more economical use of space. Like the name suggests an open concept floor plan is all about creating open spaces as opposed to individual partitioned rooms typical in pre world war ii residential architecture.
